Western Carolina University offers numerous scholarships, both need and merit based,
supporting a wide variety student types and fields of study. In addition, WCU’s scholarship
support staff work to connect students with state-administered scholarship opportunities
and others.
Here you’ll find resources and information about scholarships of all types. Be sure
to review the important upcoming deadlines below.

How to apply for WCU Scholarships
- Log into myWCU
- Click the Scholarships tab in the My Financial Aid Status box
- Click Apply for or Accept Scholarships
- Complete the General Scholarship Application
- Check your myWCU account for any additional tasks (i.e. supplemental responses, essays, letters of recommendation, etc)
- Based on the information provided in the application, you will be placed in the applicant pool for each scholarship for which you are eligible.
- Scholarship committees will review applications for each pool and select scholarship recipient(s)
- Undergraduate decisions are typically made between March and June 30
Dates and Deadlines
- The 2023-2024 WCU Scholarship Application and FAFSA both open on October 1, 2022.
- 2023-2024 WCU Scholarship Application Deadline: February 1, 2023.
- FAFSA Priority Filing Deadline: January 2, 2023. (Students who wish to be considered
for need-based scholarships must file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid
in addition to the scholarship application. The federal priority filing deadline is
January 2.)
