Dear Lateral Entry Teacher,
Congratulations – you’ve completed your first months of teaching! Over the past few weeks you’ve faced many challenges: setting up your classroom, meeting with parents, learning new curriculum, and establishing yourself as a teacher.
Western Carolina University understands these challenges. We know that lateral entry teachers have the added responsibility of completing licensure requirements during their first three years, often driving to class at the end of an exhausting school day. In response to these needs, we have designed a program allowing you to complete licensure coursework from home – NC TEACH Online for middle and secondary lateral entry teachers of English, mathematics, science, and social studies and K-12 special education.
NC TEACH Online courses are taught by Western faculty and delivered entirely online. You may begin your coursework spring 2008 and continue until you’re ready for an “A” level license. Other benefits:
- As a participant in Western’s NC TEACH II program (a U.S. Department of Education grant), you’re eligible for a $3000 stipend.
- NC TEACH Online is offered at the graduate level for those with a bachelor’s degree and 2.75 GPA or better. If you meet program requirements, you may apply credits earned toward a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and a 10% raise.
- Western also offers coursework for those with less than a 2.75 GPA through our undergraduate program.
However, time is of the essence – we only have room for 25 NC TEACH II participants. What have you got to lose? Complete the online Eligibility/Pre-Evaluation form today: http://www.ceap.wcu.edu/ncteach/ncteacheval.html.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Rachel Wike
