Students may move from "provisional" to "regular" status by earning a 3.0 grade point average and earning no grade less than a grade of "C" in their first 9 hours of graduate study. If provisionally admitted students fail to meet the requirements as stated in their letter of acceptance, the offer of admission will be withdrawn.
Rationale
We require the GRE General Exam because we believe that GRE scores should be used as one indicator among several indicators of educational quality in determining admission policies.
We view the GRE as an opportunity, not a hurdle.
We use a percentile score rather than a raw score because each section of the GRE General Exam is weighted differently, and because we believe that our competitive programs require equally strong verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing abilities.
We do not wish to exclude any students of a particular gender, race, or ethnic background.
