Master of Science in Sport Management
Admissions Requirements
Applicants for degree of Master of Science in Sport Management must have:
- An average grade of B or higher as defined by the major department in upper-level undergraduate courses in the major,
- A minimum percentile score of 25 on all three sections of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination, and
- A letter of intent and three letters of recommendation with at least two from former instructors who are in a position to judge the applicant's aptitude for graduate study.
Upon completion of the admissions procedures (see Graduate School) potential students will be contacted for an interview.
Coursework
The program for the Master of Science in Sport Management requires successful completion of 27 hours of coursework (18 core sport management hours and 9 elective hours) and 9 hours of a Practicum or Thesis. Upon successful completion of all coursework, graduate candidates must pass a comprehensive written exam covering all core courses. Students will choose one of the following options:
- Practicum Option (9 hours): this is a non-thesis degree designed for students who do not intend to continue graduate studies beyond the masters level. It requires a minimum of 27 hours of approved coursework and the successful completion of a Practicum.
- Thesis Option (9 hours): this is designed for students who either intend on continuing graduate studies beyond the master's level or intend on performing research activities. It requires a minimum of 27 hours of approved coursework and the successful completion of an oral defense of a thesis.

Graduate Assistantships
Right now we will have five (5) GA positions available through the Graduate School and one from the Office of Athletic Development (Catamount Club) for the first year (06-07).
The five GS positions come with in-state tuition and a stipend on a one-year
contract. You must fill out the application when you apply for admittance
into the program.
Three of those positions will be research assistant positions for the department professors and the other two will be event coordinator positions.
The other position will work with the Catamount Club (terms unknown at press time).
There is a possibility of more GA positions in other areas, but for now only
these six are for certain.
