How To: Evaluate Student Work (Generic)

This guide discusses how to evaluate and leave a score on student work.

This process describes how to evaluate and leave a score on student's work. To give only give feedback and no score/grade, see the process on How To: Review Student Work.

Depending on how the program is set up, You may have to tell your students to submit their work to the general pool in TaskStream or to you personally. See the How To for students on this topic.

Assuming students have submitted work for you to evaluate, go in to the program in TaskStream that students are working on through "My Programs." Find the program's box. If you are set up as an evaluator, you will have a link that says "Evaluate" in the box. If you do not see this link, contact Dr. Lee Nickles at 227-3299 or lnickles@wcu.edu. Click on the link.

You will then see the screen below. To search for your student, type their last name in the search box and click "Search"

If there are multiple students with that last name, you may have to select your student from a list like the one below. If your student is listed multiple times, select the one that says "Auto-managed evaluator group" under the Group column.

Once you find the correct student, their name should appear in green on the screen below. Select the part of the portfolio to evaluate. In this case, we wish to look at the Technology Portfolio. Then click the yellow "continue" button.

You should now see the student and a long list of columns (which you can scroll to the right and see), each with a single item to be evaluated. To evaluate an item, click on the yellow "Evaluate" button under that column.

When you click on evaluate, you will go to the screen below. It includes the directions for this item, the evaluation method, and links to the student's files uploaded for this item. The student may have also included a text message about this item, as is the case below. Click on the links to view the student's work. Once you have examined the work, click on the green "Evaluate/Score Work" button.

A new window will open up. They will be generally the same format, including the rubric against which to score this item and...

a box where you can enter your score. You may also leave comments if you wish for the student.

When you are done with this item, you can click 'Save Draft' to return to it later or you can scroll to the bottom and submit it. When submitting the score, you can select whether you want the score to be immediately available to the student or to release it later. You can also select to send the work back to the student for revision and re-submission. When you're finished, click the yellow "Submit" button

You can now evaluate other items in this portfolio in the same way.
